Service learning is a learning experience during which students participate in organized service that not only addresses the needs of a community, but also promotes students’ civic responsibility. It is incorporated into the students’ curricula at school and provides structured opportunities for students to reflect on their experiences during the service activity.

  • Adolescent Diversion Program is an intensive service-learning program for graduate and undergraduate students that involves a psychology course and service as a “change agent” in the life of an adolescent who has been referred by the court to this intervention program.
    • Students who participated in the program reported positive experiences; for example, students reported an increased understanding of themselves and a greater awareness of the world, and a realistic perspective on their future careers.
