Engagement experiences include what we refer to as conventional and unconventional civic engagement, as well as community service and volunteering, and service learning.
Working with others is an important element of becoming a fully engaged community member. The development of skills necessary to participate and serve are critical components of civic competence. And to develop these skills, one must experience engagement in one’s community in a variety of manifestations.
