Brainstorm with your child about a family member at least a generation older than he is to interview. It could be you, an aunt, uncle, or grandparent. The goal is for your child to learn about the important values, stories, or legends that are part of your family. Some possible questions:
· Is there a family hero or character you could tell me about?
· Do you have a story about how a family joke or saying got started?
· Can you tell me a story about a family courtship or wedding?
· What is your favorite story about when you were growing up?
Have your child write up the best story he heard to share with the family and, perhaps, his class at school.
